¶ Licensing
The Volinga Plugin for Unreal Engine employs an asset-based licensing system that directly affects watermark visibility. When you import and render NVOL files, the watermark's presence is determined by whether the asset was created with a Volinga Suite license that includes commercial usage permissions.
Starting with version 0.5.0, the plugin expanded its capabilities to support direct rendering of PLY files. Unlike NVOL files, however, PLY files require a separate, dedicated plugin license to render without a watermark. To activate your Plugin License, you must first download it from the License Management section under your Profile on the Volinga web platform.
After downloading, you'll need to specify the License Path in the project settings so the Volinga Plugin can locate and validate your license. Once properly configured, you should be able to render PLY files without the watermark appearing.
Please note that Unreal Engine scenes containing any unlicensed assets—whether in NVOL or PLY format—will display a watermark across the entire viewport. For completely watermark-free rendering, every asset in your scene must be properly licensed according to its specific requirements.
¶ License considerations
- Licenses are bound to a single machine.
- If you change devices, you will need a new license.
- If you generate your license on a different machine than the one you will use with the plugin, it will not work.
- Some users generate their licenses with the wrong hash or even without a hash. Please check your license and its associated hash.
- Hardware changes (new hard drive, network card, VPN virtual interfaces) may change the hash and cause license issues.
- Make sure your license is still valid and has not expired. Loading NVOLs with an expired license will display a watermark even if no notification appears.

¶ How to Generate a License File
Once the hardware hash for the target machine has been retrieved, the first time you click the "Download License" button for a specific license, a dialogue asking for the hash code will appear. After entering the hash code and clicking "Generate," a new license will be created. Subsequent clicks on the "Download License" button will download this newly generated license file.

¶ Additional Considerations Before Reporting an Issue
¶ Possible corruption of DefaultVolingaRenderer.ini (ver 0.7.x)
- Close your Unreal Engine project
- Delete the file: [project folder]/Config/DefaultVolingaRenderer.ini
- Reopen the project
- Reload your license via: Edit → Project Settings → Volinga → License
¶ Use of Pro features with a Basic or Trial license
- Cull Volume, Proxy Mesh Lighting, and nDisplay are Pro-only features.
- Using them with a Basic or Trial license will:
- Display a watermark
- Limit functionality
- Potentially trigger an automatic plugin notification
¶ NVOL and PLY generation
- Test different NVOL and PLY files to see if the watermark issue persists.
- If the watermark fades in/out, it may be related to a problem in the asset generation method.
¶ Issues
Watermark visible on renders
Cause: User is on a Trial license.
Solution: Purchase or activate a full license.
Watermark when using Pro-only features
Cause: Current license = Basic (no Pro entitlement).
Affected Features: Cull Volume, Proxy Mesh, nDisplay, etc.
Solution: Upgrade to Plugin Pro.
Watermark appears after packaging project to another machine
Cause: License is bound per device.
Solution: Activate on the new system or request a multi-machine license.
